John Abraham began his career as a model, appearing in the music video for Punjabi singer Jazzy B.’s song Surma. After winning several modeling contests in the late 1990s, Abraham started appearing in commercial advertisements and music videos. The model enrolled in Kishore Namit Kapoor`s acting classes to make it in Bollywood.

John Abraham made his acting debut in 2003, opposite Bipasha Basu in the erotic thriller Jism. The film did reasonably well, and Abraham was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. However, his next few films like Saaya, Paap, and Lakeer- Forbidden Lines, flopped at the box office.
